About the Blog

Big Data BBQ is a blog about Big Data — how to collect, manage, analyze, visualize, and find deep insights in the flood of data available from online services, smart devices, and computers today. Businesses are awash in data and paradoxically as data increases, insights often decrease. What I’ll lok at in the blog is ways to build “personal data warehouses” as well as get and combine information from larger sources and make sense out of them and drive truly useful insights from them. Have you ever said “we’ve got hundreds of reports and a great looking dashboard, but little relevant insights”? The goal of this blog is to bridge the gap between lots of data and analysis and truly useful insights.

The blog has evolved over the last few months and is about data, charting, book reviews, and site reviews.

About the Author

I am Michael Sikillian and I have been working with data and analytics for a number of years. I had a consulting business developing systems for manufacturing and financial services (product quality, commodity analysis, and marketing analysis). More recently I developed several systems to measure online services (cloud hosting applications), application usage, profitability, and demographic usage. These included a mix of subscription, direct marketing, and advertising metrics while I worked for Lycos.I worked for Microsoft in product management and business intelligence roles, first for Office then for Windows. Right now I am working at Amazon Lending which provides sellers on Amazon with working capital to grow their businesses. I am responsible for global product management.
